Computer Animation Progress

There is a lot of work going on in the computer animation world - especially to try and make animated faces look more realistic. Here an employee talks about the difference between motion capture and what her company is doing which is pretty amazing as you'll see at 1:18

If you watched the video you'd see that the entire time her face is a computer animation, you only see her real face for a few seconds at the very end. Pretty impressive technology! In other videos the company talks about how when they moved from cartoon animations to try and create more realistic human faces things got creepy (think human shrek faces) but now they have crossed over into the more realistic animation and it is amazing. They call it the Uncanny Valley - where you try to get more realistic but your brain tells you something is wrong. How'd they do on this one?
